Purpurite (Tumbled, Polished)

These Purpurite stones have been tumbled then polished, making them smooth and shiny, quite a different look to the unpolished purpurite. This is the first time we have seen Purpurite polished, it is normally seen in its natural state. It is never found in a crystalline state, only in massive form, that is, as a rock. It is a manganese phosphate mineral and it is the manganese in it that gives it the beautiful purple colouring. It is now classified as a rare mineral. No manganese residue comes off these stones, making them very safe to handle.
