Mowhawkite (3) (Mineral)
$495.00
Mohawkite is one of the rarest compounds to be found. It is a naturally occurring mix of copper, arsenic, cobalt, silver, nickle, and iron, and is frequently found as veins in quartz. Having only ever been found in one location, it takes its name from the original mine it was found in, Mohawk Mine in Allouez Township, in January 1900 during copper mining operations. The mine, itself, was named after the Native American Mohawk nation.
This particular piece has no discernible Quartz. It has been polished on four faces.
Because Mohawkite is a copper arsenide, it can contain high amounts of arsenic, so handwashing after handling it is advised.
