Mosasaur Tooth, in ‘matrix’ (Fossil)

This is a genuine fossilised Mosasaur tooth, but is set on a matrix that is made from sand and other material found near the site of the tooth. Mosasaurs comprise a group of extinct, large marine reptiles. Their first fossil remains were discovered in a limestone quarry at Maastricht on the Meuse in 1764. They belong to the order Squamata, which includes lizards and snakes.

Size: The whole piece is approximately 150mm x 125mm. The tooth itself is 25mm x 23mm, while the tooth and the tooth root is 65mm x 35mm
Age: Late Cretaceous, 85 – 65 myo
