The Sikhote-Alin meteorite is a large iron meteorite that impacted in the Sikhote-Alin Mountains of Russia on February 12, 1947. It is one of the largest witnessed meteorite showers in history, creating a large strewn field of fragments and an explosion that shattered windows and felled trees miles away. Composition: 93% iron, 5.9% nickel, and 0.46% cobalt, with smaller amounts of other elements. Classification: It belongs to the IIAB group and is classified as a coarse octahedrite. Minerals: The main mineral is kamacite, an iron-nickel alloy.
