Limonite, after Pyrite (Crystal)

Limonite is essentially an amorphous, earthy iron ore, however, these pieces are pseudomorphs, and come as Limonite after Pyrite. A pseudomorph is a mineral or mineral compound that appears in an outward crystal shape belonging to a different mineral species, caused by replacement, alteration, or substitution processes. While the external form is preserved, the internal chemistry, hardness, and colour change to that of the new mineral. So, these are limonite but presenting in the crystal formation of Pyrite. As such, they are sometimes referred to as Devil’s Dice, and are sought after by pseudomorph collectors.
