Jacinto de Compostela is a mineral, specifically a variety of red quartz found in Spain, characterised by its red colour due to hematite or clay inclusions. It is known for forming isolated crystals or hedgehog-like aggregates and was named after medieval pilgrims who carried these quartz “floaters” from other parts of Spain as talismans for good luck on their journey to Santiago de Compostela.
