Crinoid (2) (Fossil)

A beautiful specimen of a complete pelagic (free-floating) Crinoid. This specimen has not been stained or enhanced in any way. The Solnhofen limetones is a famous Lagerstätte (a sedimentary layer with unusual occurrences of relatively well-preserved organic remains) in Germany that offer amazing preservation of Upper Jurassic fossils. The fine grained limestone makes excellent building materials which has led to heavy quarrying over the past two centuries, resulting in some amazing fossils being unearthed.
