Cinnabar Crystal and Quartz crystals on Matrix

This specimen shares the matrix with several Quartz crystals as well as a splattering of Calcite crystals. Cinnabar is a bright red to reddish brown mineral, primarily composed of mercury sulfide (HgS). It is the main ore of mercury and has been historically used as the pigment known as vermilion.
Generally, you should always wash your hands after handling this mineral, because of it’s toxicity, however, because of the position of the cinnabar crystal on this specimen, you are less likely to touch the crystal itself. Keep away from children.
